Grok Bot + Claude Code and Codex CLIs: route each task to a model
Install the Claude Code and Codex command-line tools on your Bots' cloud computer, sign in once, and tell every Bot which model handles writing and which handles code.
Setup
- Ask your Chief of Staff Bot to open a terminal on its computer and install both CLIs. It pauses while you sign in to each one.
- Update every Bot's instructions and the shared memory with your routing rule, for example writing to Claude Opus and code to another model.
- Re-create any CLAUDE.md files or settings you rely on. They aren't on the Bot's computer.
- Read each provider's current terms on automated use before you depend on this.
Starter prompt
Routing rule for all Bots:
- Writing (emails, posts, newsletters, docs): run it through the claude CLI on your computer, then review the result before using it.
- Code and computer-use tasks: use [your chosen coding model or CLI].
- Everything else: use Grok as normal.
At the end of each task, tell me which route you used.
Business fit
How this stack helps specific businesses:
- Solo foundersOwners who prefer one model's writing can use it inside their Bot team without copying and pasting.
- AgenciesAgencies can standardize which model writes client copy across every Bot.
- StartupsTechnical founders mix models per task while keeping Grok Bot's routines and connectors.
Watch-outs
- Replies raise unverified concerns: whether this fits each provider's terms, and whether sign-ins from data-center IP addresses get flagged.
- Replies also note Grok Bot can already use other models in some cases. Check the model options in your plan first.
- This is one practitioner’s endorsement without measured results.
