Explain it simply

SEO (search engine optimization) means making a website easy for Google to find. A developer let Claude Code, an AI that works with code, control a real web browser and check his blog the way Google would. It found hidden settings that were telling search engines to ignore the whole site.

What was done

The developer behind alexop.dev was building a Nuxt blog starter (NuxtPapier) and didn't want to do a manual SEO audit. He connected Claude Code to a Puppeteer MCP server, which lets it control a real browser, and gave it one short prompt.

Claude made its own to-do list: homepage screenshots, meta tags, blog post pages, heading structure, load times, mobile view, robots.txt and sitemap. It worked through each item and wrote the findings to a markdown file.

How it went

It found the problems that mattered most: a development "noindex, nofollow" meta tag and a robots.txt blocking all crawlers, plus duplicate H1 tags on blog posts.

  • It also confirmed what was working (structured data, mobile layout, 200ms load times, clean URLs) and listed fixes by priority, naming the files and code to change. He says it finished "in minutes" what would have taken him hours.
  • Limitation: this was a developer auditing his own project. No ranking or traffic results are reported, and the setup assumes you can run Claude Code and an MCP server.

Setup (from the post):
1. Install Claude Code.
2. Set up the Puppeteer MCP server, so Claude Code can drive a real browser.
3. Start your site, or use a staging URL.

Audit prompt:
Act as a technical SEO auditor. Use Puppeteer to audit [URL]: meta tags, headings, robots meta tags, robots.txt, sitemap, structured data, page speed and mobile layout, on the homepage and 3 key pages ([page URLs]). Write the findings to seo-audit.md, grouped as Critical, Quick wins and Later, with the exact fix for each.

Setup from the post. The prompt is our business version of his short one.

Business fit

Who this helps, and how:

  • Startup founders: run this before launch so a leftover "noindex" setting doesn't hide you from Google.

    Startups
  • E-commerce sellers: point it at a theme preview or staging URL and check product and collection pages before a redesign.

    Shopify & ecommerce
  • Agencies and freelancers: use it as a fast first-pass audit, then add human judgment and a client-ready report.

    Agencies
  • Local service businesses: check that your service pages, contact page and mobile view are crawlable and fast.

    Local & service
  • Medical and health practice owners: confirm the booking and location pages are indexed and load fast on phones.
