Explain it simply

A one-lawyer firm connected its AI assistant to email, its case-management app and its documents. Each hour the AI looks for new client requests, files them as tasks and starts the paperwork, such as a confidentiality agreement or a marked-up contract. The lawyer then reviews and finishes the work himself.

What was done

He connected Claude to his apps through Zapier MCP: Clio, Gmail, Google Calendar, Zoom, Google Docs, Drive and Sheets, Xero and GitHub.

An hourly run has Claude scan Gmail for new client requests and log each matter or task in Clio.

For NDAs and contracts, Claude drafts the document or a first-pass review with tracked changes in Google Docs.

He reviews and finishes every piece of work himself.

How it went

Zapier reports 12,322 MCP tasks since he joined on April 3 and no traditional Zaps. Guzman says that by the time he opens a request, "roughly half of it is already done", and estimates he produces the same work in 20% of the time (5x faster).

  • This is Zapier's own customer story, so it's promotional: Zapier sells the connector at the centre of the setup.
  • The 20% figure is the lawyer's own estimate; no before-and-after hours are given.
  • He also runs a consultancy and a product business, mentioned in the story; the post doesn't say whether he sells this setup.

Prompt

PromptWritten by our editors from the source
Check my inbox for messages from the last hour that look like new client requests.

For each one:
1. Create a task in [case-management app] under the right client or matter, with the request in one line and the deadline if one is mentioned.
2. If it's an NDA request, draft one from [template] with the parties and terms in the email.
3. If it's a contract to review, make a copy and suggest changes in tracked changes, with a short comment explaining each change against [my standard positions].

Don't reply to anyone or send anything. List what you did and anything you weren't sure about.

Setup notes

  1. Connect the apps one at a time and test each action on a dummy matter before letting it run hourly.
  2. Keep drafting in tracked changes so every AI edit is visible before anything reaches a client.

Business fit

Who this helps, and how:

  • Solo and small law firms: have new requests logged in your practice-management app with a first draft waiting when you open them.

    Agencies
  • Consultants who send contracts: turn emailed NDA and contract requests into drafts in your own template.
