What happened Microsoft says Copilot Chat, including Copilot in Outlook, is available at no additional cost with eligible Microsoft 365 plans. Copilot in Teams meetings needs a Copilot licence; the Business add-on is from $18 per user a month, paid yearly.

Explain it simply
If you use Outlook, the Copilot on your plan can sum up a long email. Meeting recaps in Teams, with tasks and owners, need the paid licence. You also need the meeting written down as people talk. Start with the free email help, and buy the add-on only for people who need meeting notes.
What was done
This is a setup from Microsoft's documentation, not a business's story. Summarize long Outlook threads with Copilot Chat; for meetings, turn on transcription in Teams and ask Copilot for the recap and action items.
How it went
No business result is claimed. Microsoft's Teams help says "Transcription is required to use Copilot" and that Copilot won't work in meetings hosted outside your organization.
- Pricing checked Oct 17, 2026: the $18 add-on is a promotional price ("Originally starting from $21.00").
- Base Microsoft 365 plan prices were not captured; check your plan is eligible.
Prompt
Context: You are an office manager or owner who wants to stop rereading long email threads and stop taking manual meeting notes.
OUTLOOK (Copilot, included with Copilot Chat): open the thread, select Summarize, then ask:
"Summarize this thread for [YOUR_ROLE]: 1) what the client is asking for, 2) decisions already made, 3) open questions, 4) who is waiting on me, and by when. Then draft a reply that answers [QUESTION_TO_ANSWER] and proposes [NEXT_STEP]. Under 150 words, tone: [TONE]."
TEAMS MEETING (requires Microsoft 365 Copilot licence; turn on transcription):
"Recap this meeting for people who missed it: decisions made, action items as a table (Owner | Task | Due date), unresolved issues, and anything said about [PROJECT_OR_CLIENT]. Flag any action item without an owner."
AFTER THE MEETING:
"Draft a follow-up email to [ATTENDEE_GROUP] with the decisions and the action-item table. Subject: [MEETING_NAME] – decisions and next steps."
